What's your connection like to the ocean and your environment?

By the waterside is where I feel happiest. Be it the ocean, glittering rock pools, rolling swells or gentle rivers, I'm at my most peaceful when alongside or submerged in water.

Do you have a Found Treasure piece? What's your gifting story / meaning behind your piece? Or, what do you like about the brand?

I have a beautiful little pair of Ulu shell studs. I was gifted these by Naomi and I treasure them deeply! I love how simple and special they are, and they are my little piece of the seaside when I'm away from it (which isn't very often!). I have also never owned a pair of pretty studs, and I wear them all the time as they go with everything and are so subtle yet sparkly.

Sea People Interview with Lottie Lewis

Cornish wordsmith and water-woman Lottie Lewis first met Naomi when they were teenagers, dancing in fields under the stars. Whilst they now couldn’t live further apart, Found Treasure’s Naomi and Lottie of Lottie’s Words work together to create journal entries about their passions, beliefs and small businesses. Get to know Lottie and her words below…

Tell us about yourself and what you are passionate about creating.

My name is Lottie; dog-mum, water-lover, wordsmith and creative. I reside in Cornwall, England, and whilst I’ve travelled all over the world, I can’t image living anywhere else. I absolutely love it here. I am a writer with a passion for telling dreamy tales from the seaside.

Can you give us a snapshot of your lifestyle and passions?

My life revolves around where I live. I'm Cornish born and I spend all my time by the coast, swimming and surfing, finding joy and peace in nature whilst walking my beloved dog and gardening. I am very passionate about girls getting in the water, spending as much time outdoors as possible and writing words that come from my heart.

What projects are you working on at the moment? Where can we see your latest work? What are you hoping to do more of in the future?

I have been squirrelling away at a book for a long time. It’s a constant, evolving work in progress and I really hope it comes into fruition one day! I'm also copywriting for lots of my lovely clients, picking up fun freelance projects with surf magazines and getting involved with photoshoots and projects.

In the future I hope my business flourishes, I work consistently with clients who align with my passions and values and can continue to support the lifestyle I love. Also, it would be nice if I could find the perseverance to finish my book, too!

How does your business work?

Lottie’s Words works with small business owners that either don’t have time to write or find it difficult. I can turn my tone of voice to suit any brand and work on one-off projects and by retainer. I especially love collaborating with other creative freelancers.

I’ve worked on all kinds of projects, from coffee table travel guides to social media management, and value working with clients with similar morals and ideas to my own. If it’s anything to do with nature, creativity or outdoor lifestyle then I’m in!

Managing my own time has been a game-changer. I used to work in a creative marketing agency as a copywriter and account manager where I learnt so many invaluable skills, but I couldn’t handle the 9-5 life. Now, I love having the freedom to work on creative projects when I’m feeling inspired, and not forcing the words, plus I’ve learnt how to be my own boss.

What would be your x3 main tips for creativity or working within a creative field?

Don't force it, but also don't miss deadlines because you're not feeling it! Sometimes the words will start to flow once you get past the first sentence, literally and metaphorically. A change of perspective always helps me when I'm lacking in creativity. I go for a cold swim, a long walk or travel somewhere new. You don't need a university degree or years of experience to launch a freelance business or make it in your industry. You just need to learn constantly, take feedback on board and believe in yourself. Confidence is key.

Spring, summer, autumn or winter?

I’m nature obsessed and spend as much time outside as possible. When I’m not submerged in the sea you’ll find me walking my dog on the coast paths, seeking quiet corners and sun traps. I adore spring for the promise of new life that it brings; thawing out after a long winter, pretty buds on the trees and the return of the morning chorus. But autumn also holds such a special place in my heart. I love hot tea on misty mornings, surfing cold water swells and watching the Canadian geese head south… I couldn’t choose between the two!
