Found Treasure Journal - Morning Rituals

Morning Rituals

Finding time for ourselves, the calm within the chaos, is integral when it comes to a healthy and happy existence, which is why we love and cherish our morning rituals. Before the world has had a chance to yawn and stretch it’s legs, we get a head start on life, enjoying the moments we can create for ourselves. How do you spend your mornings?

In our opinion, there’s no better way to wake up than by diving in. Sea swims invigorate and energise, washing away the cobwebs and awakening your skin, senses and mind. We love to wander barefoot to the beach, rucksack packed with swimsuit, tea and towel, to watch the sun rise over the silver water and enjoy a whole different kind of dreamland.

If the elements align, we grab our wetsuits, still damp with the nights dew, strap our single fins to the roof and head out in search of dawn breakers. There’s no better feeling than reaching the brow of the hill and seeing the early morning rollers lining up towards the horizon, with only a few solitary surfers in the sea below us. Taking to the waves, we slide in a solidarity of salty sisterhood, starting the day in our favourite way.

Making coffee is a ritual within itself, so take the time to enjoy it. Hearing the first hiss of the boiling water filtering through the moka pot, before it bubbles and steams on the hob, the rich smell drifting through the air and into your favourite mug. Slowly stirring in the sugar and milk, creating a cup of hot heaven that’ll warm your hands, your lips, your mind. Whether rain is lashing against the window or the dust motes are dancing amongst a stream of sunshine, mornings are better with coffee.

In a world where we are constantly rushing, always responding and making plans, find time for mindfulness. There is no peace like the peace of the morning, and yoga and meditation not only ground you, but awaken you too. Focus your mind, stretch your body, let your thoughts flow freely and calm your breathing. Find space and time for yourself before the day gets ahead of you with no distractions from friends, phones or to do lists.

Find your mood through music and freshen up the sleepy spaces within you. Dance around your kitchen in your underwear to African beats and sing to old classics, stretch your sleepy limbs to your favourite slow songs and get the blood flowing from the tips of your fingers to the ends of your toes. Sometimes something as simple as a playlist can set your soundtrack for the entire day.

Go where your heart wants! If you’re craving fresh air and space, take a walk on the beach with a flask of tea as the dawn breaks. If you’re feeling sleepy and slow, pull on your favourite knitted jumper and sip your coffee in front of the window as the sunlight falls on your face. The mornings are made up of precious moments that belong to no one but you. Use them wisely.
